Ecosystem Functioning of the Loess Plateau in China from Vegetation Restoration Relied Largely on Climate

چکیده

Climate change and anthropogenic replantation are supposed to greatly vegetation coverage ecosystem stability functions, e.g., net primary productivity (NPP), evapotranspiration (ET) water use efficiency (WUE). Our study compared WUE of nature- human-induced forest cover increase on the Loess Plateau since 2000 using satellite-derived Vegetation Continuous Fields (VCF), NPP, ET. This also applied over 30 years model-based NPP meteorological observations compare changes brought up by Grain for Green Project. The result showed that average fraction increased from 7.1% (~4.5 × 104 km2) in 11.2% (~7.3 2014. Simulating the Effect of Climate Change on Vegetation Zone Distribution on the Loess Plateau, Northwest China

A risk assessment of vegetation zone responses to climate change was conducted using the classical Holdridge life zone model on the Loess Plateau of Northwest China. The results show that there are currently ten vegetation zones occurring on the Loess Plateau (1950–2000), including alvar desert, alpine wet tundra, alpine rain tundra, boreal moist forest, boreal wet forest, cool temperate desert...

Regional effects of vegetation restoration on water yield across the Loess Plateau, China

The general relationships between vegetation and water yield under different climatic regimes are well established at a small watershed scale in the past century. However, applications of these basic theories to evaluate the regional effects of land cover change on water resources remain challenging due to the complex interactions of vegetation and climatic variability and hydrologic processes ...

The potential for vegetation restoration from soil seed bank in abandoned croplands on the hilly-gullied Loess Plateau, China

The results of field survey, germination and correspondence analysis showed that the soil seed banks density ranged from 900 to 6,467 seeds m at 0-5 cm depth and 117 to 2,467 seeds m at 5-10 cm depth, with species richness of 7-14. Early successional species dominated the soil seed bank, while later successional species occurred only at low density. The similarity between soil seed bank and sta...

A Policy-Driven Large Scale Ecological Restoration: Quantifying Ecosystem Services Changes in the Loess Plateau of China

As one of the key tools for regulating human-ecosystem relations, environmental conservation policies can promote ecological rehabilitation across a variety of spatiotemporal scales. However, quantifying the ecological effects of such policies at the regional level is difficult. A case study was conducted at the regional level in the ecologically vulnerable region of the Loess Plateau, China, t...
